At Decorex 2023, OTZI crafted a striking paravent screen for the champagne bar, constructed from leather tassels made from offcut leathers
Over a period of three years Otis collected the offcuts from a small leather goods workshop, thin strips of a heavy tumbled vegetable tanned leather that were the remnants of the cutting process for making bag straps. With over fifty kilos accumulated there was enough to create a unique piece that celebrated all of that work and the production of many hundreds of bags.
Named ‘Aizecanne’ after the traditional pasta drying frames in Italy, the strands were bunched together, draped and tied onto a joined elm frame with a series of holes that allowed the bunches to be in effect sewn on. The screen has very tactile quality with the thousands of strands inviting the hand to engage with the density and softness of the material.
